Reflection

Random question: Do you believe in fate?

I do. Strongly do. Not only fate but also karma. 'What goes round comes round'.Yes!..in a day, week, month or even years..

Personal experiece and a bit of faith has made me take the stand on this side...the positive side..While in a complex reflection of the same I decided to pen it down and get everyones opinion out there....

So pick your brains and shoot the comments peeps..what do YOU think??:)

Aren't fate and karma diametrically opposite in the circle of life?

If you believe in 'karma', you believe in retribution. That your current deeds will influence your future state.

If you believe in 'fate', you believe that something that has to happen will happen inevitably, no matter what.

If you believe that karma can change your fate then it makes the whole concept of fate brittle. What is pre-ordained shouldn't be allowed to change?

I think fate is an excuse for bad karma.

Thanks mother..

Surreal..Nopes fate and karma are supplementary I feel...your fate ..whether fortunate or sorry..leads you to act in certain ways..and that in turn brings your karma..which will come back to you no matter what...

On a different angle, if not supplementary then they're absolutely un-related. Fate is present however you think, whereas karma exists if you believe in it. If you fall upon something unfortunate you could say its fate..and overlook it..but only if u believe in karma will you think its coz of your past actions...

Its comfusing..the more you think about it..the more tangled you get..

I believe theyre different..yet related..unique yet derived from each other

No? am confused...

My perception of these metaphysical elements is exactly opposite - that karma is the driving force and fate is something you choose to believe in or not.

Its difficult to form a concrete philosophy without addressing issues like retribution in the form of heaven/hell, afterlife and reincarnation.

At the end of the day it really comes down to which belief motivates you to do something "positive".

I highly recommend reading "The Tibetan Book of the Dead". Simplistic view on some of these concepts, but very absorbing.

Karma and fate are not contradictory at all.

Fate just refers to randomness, if you may. At various points in your life, there are things beyond your control that affect you. It's like somebody flips a coin and if its heads, things favorable to you happen.

Good Karma just biases the coin in your favor!

interesting thought anony...but how do u explain all the nicest ppl in the world ...who havn't done a thing to deserve all the crap that keeps rolling their way? I've never been able to give them anything but - 'yep..life's a bitch' in consolation...somehow, its quite lame.

Tell me about it!

But maybe of all the nice people, only a very small fraction get unlucky. It's just that sad stories stick in your mind forever while you forget the happy moments.

Or maybe the one above just has a cruel sense of humour.

I think Karma is just a concept made to fool people that they can change their fate.. whats coming for you is coming for you.. it's not like accidents happen to only bad people or good people arent afflicted with fatal illnesses or nice people dont go bankrupt or lose loved ones..no such thing is there ? whats going to happen has nothing to do with what you have already done.

however, this doesnt mean i dont think people shouldnt be good ..be good... but don't do it thinking there s something good waiting for you at the end of it... that's all..

karma does affect ur next life....good deeds good next life ....bad deeds bad next life....i believe so ....but then whose to check how ur previous life has been...but if u have read the book 'many lives many masters' u will definitely start thinking about it.. and as for fate u cant change it but u can definitely lessen the bad effects( no one wants to change the good efects anyway). And as zippadee says ,rightly so,that we forget the good which happens and remember only the bad ...so all you people out thr be good /think good so that ur next life is wonderful. In short i feel karma and fate are interlinked

Shuchi said...

My mother bein mother has the same philosphy i do..lol

yeps fate and karma are interlinked..gayatri..wt u said is correct..that u dun have to be good or bad to bear the consequences..but your actions someday, somewhere will have an affect on you..maybe not big enough for you to realise but they will. Some people have it worse than others..not saying coz they are bad people..but maybe coz they;re just unlucky..which gets me to the fact that luck plays a biggg part in life too..and to some extent if you have good karma..your bad luck could be lessesned..its not written in stone..its my belief..

a belief which I think makes people want to be good..and makes one happy when they do something good..

so peeps put on those good shoes ..after all there isnt nething to lose rite:)!
